Spring, Surealism, & Singers On Tap For 3rd Thursday

San Marcos, TX – This month’s Third Thursday Downtown Walkabout activities at the Price Center will feature a new community art show celebrating spring, a solo show by abstract expressionist Veronique Hahn, and three different live musical acts throughout the Center from 6-9 p.m. on Thurs., March 15.

Hahn and Rebecca Bowman will be selling and autographing Ink Reactions/Reacciones en tinta, a new collaborative, bilingual book featuring Hahn’s surreal images and Bowman’s poems written in response to these images. New works from SMCISD K-12 students will also be on display.

Light refreshments are served. Thanks in part to grant funding from the San Marcos Arts Commission, the event is free and open to all.

“Spring Fever” features a variety of images, mediums, and local artists’ take on spring. More than 40 original creations by 18 local artists celebrate the beauty and traditions of the season in a show that hangs in the Tea Room and stairwell galleries through April.

“An approach to culture, nature and ornamental designs” is Hahn’s solo show in the 1910 Room, which includes a total of 10 abstract expressionist works featuring multi-and-intercultural symbolic work influenced by the Bauhaus movement.

Many of the works on display are available for purchase. A portion of proceeds benefit the Price Center, a non-profit community center operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association.

Live music will begin with Kelany Brent at 6 p.m. with a broad range of music, including many that she has written as well as covers ranging from country to punk-rock. At 7:20 p.m. Gav Sears will play an assortment of popular his favorite piano tunes and at 7:40 p.m.

Water on Mars featuring Michael Comeau and Moira Thomas on guitars and vocals, and John McIntyre on bass, will begin the final set for the night. The group covers a wide range of music, from original material to historic songs in the public domain, and most anything in between.
