SAN MARCOS – On Saturday, September 25 the San Marcos community came together to celebrate living in the Mermaid Capital of Texas. The day was full of live music, artisan and food vendors and a parade.

The Mermaid Society in San Marcos helped organize the event, which brought spectators and merchants from all over Texas. The community celebrated the history of mermaids in San Marcos and preservation of the San Marcos River.

“I think the emergence of the Mermaid Society is truly one of the most exciting things that has happened in our city,” Andrew Sansom, Executive Director of the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment said. “It’s not only dedicated to the arts, but to the preservation of our river. And so it’s made a wonderful difference in a short time and I’m thrilled to be part of it.”
