Public invited to Arts Master Plan open house

Staff Reports

The City of San Marcos invites members of the community to join an Arts Master Planning Open House on Wednesday, July 28. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Price Center, 222 W. San Antonio St. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with light refreshments available.

City staff and consultants will present preliminary findings and recommendations from the Arts Master Plan Update to gather community feedback. The input will help determine the current state of arts and culture in San Marcos and generate ideas that will strengthen these important aspects of the community.

“Public engagement is a key part of this process,” said Arts Coordinator Trey Hatt. “We have a vibrant arts and cultural scene in San Marcos, and the Arts Master Plan will help our city continue to grow as a cultural destination.”

The City of San Marcos has hired Keen Independent Research to develop an arts master plan to help guide the City in future decisions to help cultivate arts and culture and enrich the community. Keen Independent has actively engaged community members, artists, arts and culture organization representatives, City leaders and other stakeholders through in-depth interviews and a virtual workshop.

Community members will also have an opportunity to learn about the City’s Vision SMTX Comprehensive Plan rewrite project, which will establish the goals and vision for the future of San Marcos for the next 20 years regarding key topics such as housing, transportation, arts and culture, and the environment and resource protection.

Anyone unable to participate in the Open House is encouraged to reach out to the study hotline at 512.593.1305 or email sanmarcosartsmasterplan2021@keenindependent.com.
