San Mercado Coming To Price Center Twice In November

San Marcos, TX – San Marcos’ only downtown, monthly, community market – the Price Center’s San Mercado – will happen twice in November to help vendors and shoppers with extra local shopping opportunities prior to the Holiday season.

The monthly markets will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14 and again on Sat. Nov. 28 (aka Shop Small Saturday) in conjunction with the San Marcos Farmers Market (9-1) and the San Marco Art League’s Art Squared (9-4), which both take place on the Historic Courthouse Square, a short walk from the Center.

Each event will feature live musical entertainment and COVID-safe precautions, including required mask wearing by all vendors and shoppers, outdoor and indoor vendors spaced safely apart with plenty of fresh air flowing through the facility.

The Downtown Association of San Marcos (DASM) will also provide free pedicabs to help shuttle shoppers from place to place on Nov. 14.

Participating San Mercado vendors will be set up in the Price Center’s Garden and indoor venues from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., pianist Gav Sears will perform an hour-long set of his favorite Disney songs at 10:30 and again at 1.

Several returning Mercado vendors will be joined by new vendors, including a chocolatier, wreath, and other holiday décor vendors, and other fabric artists, including makers of masks, stockings, totes, quilt panels, and more.

In addition, The Price Center Arts Committee will oversee a new collaborative public art installation titled “Make a Joyful Noise: A Community Crazy Quilt.”

Interested participants can pick up a free supply kit to assemble a 6” x 6” art square for the unique paper quilt that will be assembled and on display at the Center in December.

Admission to San Mercado is free and open to all. Mask wearing and other COVID-safe practices will be enforced. A limited number of vendor spaces are still available for $20 outdoor, $30 indoor.

The monthly market is made possible in part through grant funds from the San Marcos Arts Commission. Proceeds from booth rentals benefit the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit.

Plans for the Nov. 28th offering of the Mercado include holiday-inspired live music by vocalist and acoustic guitarist extraordinaire Gary Taylor, another chance to participate in the community quilt project, and other holiday-oriented vendors for the day.
