Farmer Fred’s Fall Carnival Has Been Postponed to Thursday, Oct. 29

The annual fall carnival will be held at San Marcos Plaza Park, 201 N. CM Allen Parkway from 6-9 p.m. and will feature carnival games, a costume contest, prizes and more.

The Parks and Recreation Department is calling for volunteers who are available for the new date; anyone interested can email Victoria Van de Ryt at vvanderyt@sanmarcostx.gov.

Farmer Fred’s Harvest Fall Carnival is free to the public, made possible by support from its generous sponsors: Grande Communications, Alligator Dental, Central Texas Medical Center, Thermon, Mensor, CFAN, The Hitch: A Mobile Eatery, Henry’s Restaurant, teleNetwork, J & R Gymnastics, Corridor Primary Care, Corridor Electric, UPS Store – San Marcos, Game Over Videogames and Academy Sports + Outdoors.

This family-friendly event has taken place in various locations over the past few decades, and this year it will take a short detour across the river to Plaza Park. While a few attractions – including the Haunted Hayride – will remain on the City Park side of the river, the bulk of the event will take place in the newly renovated Plaza Park while City Park undergoes a similar revamping.

The spooktacular night includes carnival games, arts and crafts, and additional family activities available for all ages to enjoy. For your viewing pleasure, seasonal cartoon episodes will be rolling throughout the event on the outdoor movie screen. A concession stand selling popcorn, hot dogs, drinks and other items will be provided by Texas State’s Association of Recreation Enthusiasts. A haunted hayride and a barrel train ride will also be offered for a minimal cost.

Come dressed in a prize-winning costume and enter the Children’s Costume Contest. Children infant to 12 years old can register for the costume contest from 6 – 6:45 p.m. at the large stage at Plaza Park. This contest is grouped by age and first, second, and third places will be awarded. The age groups and times are:
  • Registration for all ages: 6 – 6:45p.m.
  • 3 years and under: 7 p.m.
  • 4 – 6 years old: 7:30p.m.
  • 7 – 9 years old: 8 p.m.
  • 10 – 12 years old: 8:30 p.m.
Whether this is an annual tradition for your family and friends or something new for you to enjoy for years to come, this is a fall treat you can’t miss!
