San Marcos hosts virtual workshop for Arts Master Plan

Staff Reports

The City of San Marcos is seeking resident feedback to update the City’s Arts Master Plan, the guiding document for city officials as they set policy related to arts and culture in San Marcos. Feedback from the public will help the City examine the market for arts in the area, survey arts and cultural assets, and determine the needs of local organizations and the arts community.

“The Arts Master Plan gives the Arts Commission and City Council a roadmap to follow as they allocate funds and make strategic decisions supporting the vibrant arts and cultural communities in San Marcos,” said Arts Coordinator Trey Hatt. “This project requires extensive public participation from residents, artists, and anyone else involved in the arts in San Marcos.”

City staff and arts planning consultants will gather public feedback online through a virtual workshop available at www.sanmarcostx.gov/artsworkshop. The workshop takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and is available in both English and Spanish through May 28.

Anyone unable to participate online is encouraged to share feedback through the project’s automated hotline by calling 512.593.1305 or emailing sanmarcosartsmasterplan2021@keenindependent.com.

The City has contracted with Keen Independent, a national research firm with expertise in arts and culture, to lead the master plan update. Alex Keen, Keen Independent COO and Senior Consultant lead the study.
