Tree Work scheduled this week in San Marcos

Staff Reports

SAN MARCOS – Beginning November 8, crews contracted by the City of San Marcos will remove freeze-damaged or diseased trees from various City properties and rights of way. Some work will require the Children’s Park playscape to close Tuesday, Nov. 9 between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m., weather permitting.

“After Winter Storm Uri, many public trees have been monitored for declining health,” said Urban Forester Kelly Eby. “Stressed and damaged trees are susceptible to insects and diseases causing them to decline and become a safety hazard.”

Work is scheduled throughout the week in front of City Hall, the City-owned property adjacent to St. John’s Catholic Church, the San Marcos Public Library, the San Marcos Cemetery, Rio Vista Park, and Children’s Park.

Alternate playgrounds to visit on Tuesday, Nov. 9 while the Children’s Park playscape is closed include:

  • City Park, 170 Charles Austin Dr.
  • Conway Park, 504 Bliss Ln.
  • Dunbar Park, 801 W. MLK
  • Victory Gardens Park, 300 Roosevelt St.
  • Vietnam Veterans Park, 320 Mariposa St.
