AAC Reaches Critical Capacity, Seeks Adopters And Fosters

The Austin Animal Center is at critical capacity and desperate for adopters and fosters of medium and large dogs this weekend. The shelter has taken in nearly 100 animals in the last two days alone and is running out of places to house them.

For the last six months, AAC has had to convert a conference room into kennel space in order to house the surplus of medium and large dogs in the shelter. That conference room is no longer enough.

You can help by visiting the shelter as soon as possible to meet the animals available for adoption. Adoption fees are only $75, the lowest in the city, and include spay/neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccinations, a microchip and ID tag.

If you are unable to adopt, please consider fostering a medium or large dog. Prior foster experience is not necessary, just bring a government issued ID to the shelter and AAC staff will help to match you with a dog in need.

You can browse available animals on the AAC website at austinanimalcenter.org and click Adopt.

Interested adopters and fosters should visit the shelter at 7201 Levander Loop as soon as possible. The shelter is open every day from 11 AM to 7 PM.
