Train collision leads to death of 16-year-old in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS — On Monday February 21, 2022, at approximately 5:07 p.m. San Marcos Police Officers were dispatched to 209 S. CM Allen Parkway near Rio Vista Park regarding an incident involving a train and a pedestrian.
Officers responded to the location and found that 16-year-old, Letzy Jaramillo had been struck and killed by an oncoming train. Jaramillo was declared deceased at the scene by Judge Maggie Moreno.
Initial reports from witnesses at the scene indicate that Jaramillo was crossing over the railroad tracks while looking at her phone when she was struck by the train.
The scene was cleared at approximately 8:51 PM.
