The City of San Marcos, in partnership with the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce and San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District, is currently accepting applications for the LEGIT Summer Internship Program.

LEGIT stands for principles the students will encounter during the program: Learning, Experience, Groundwork, Instruction, and Training. Students will acquire real-world experience and knowledge to further develop their skills in the workplace.

The program, designed for incoming San Marcos High School sophomores and juniors, will be held from June 4 to Aug. 14 and will require each participant to complete 100 hours. The supervisor at the host site will determine weekly hours based on the student’s schedule.

Participants must be at least 14 years old. There is room for up to 15 participants in the LEGIT program. If selected, students will be placed at one of several host agencies based on preferences selected in their application.

Agencies include the San Marcos Animal Shelter, City of San Marcos Main Street Program, City of San Marcos Youth Services Division, San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce, the Hays County Food Bank, and the Hays County Clerk’s office.

Students who complete the full 100 hours, along with other requirements determined by the LEGIT program coordinators, will be eligible to receive a laptop computer at the end of the program.
