Arrest Warrant Issued For Suspect In San Marcos Police Officer’s Death

Officer Kenneth Copeland was hit by multiple bullets when the suspect open fired on officers. He was taken to Central Texas Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

On Monday, Dec. 3, San Marcos Police Officers arrived at the El Camino Real subdivision to issue an arrest warrant for Stewart Thomas Mettz. Officer Kenneth Copeland was hit by multiple bullets when the suspect open fired on officers. He was taken to Central Texas Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

Tuesday, Dec.  4, Hays County Judge Maggie H. Moreno issued an arrest warrant for Mettz regarding the death of Officer Copeland. Below is a copy of the official affidavit and arrest warrant. Mettz is currently in police custody at an Austin hospital where he is being treated for a gunshot wound. As of yet, whether the wound is self-inflicted or not is unknown.
