Buda City Council Approves Amended Water Resource Management And Drought Response Ordinance

The Texas Water Development Board requires that the city update the water conservation and drought contingency plans every five years.

The Buda City Council has approved the second and final reading of the City’s amended Water Resource Management and Drought Response Ordinance on Feb. 20.

The ordinance establishes drought condition triggers and serves as a strategy for reducing water consumption, reducing the loss or waste of water, and improving the efficiency in the use of water.

Buda’s former ordinance was adopted in January of 2012. The Texas Water Development Board requires that the city update the water conservation and drought contingency plans every five years.

The updated ordinance includes the addition of new definitions such as Outdoor Splash Pads and Protected Trees. Drought triggers were also modified to add drought conditions from the Guadalupe-Blanco River Authority.

Under the amended plan, the staff encourages the city’s water customers to abide by a year-round irrigation schedule of twice per week watering.
