Local Downtown Restaurant To Provide Meals To Those In Need

Staff Reports

A local downtown restaurant will prepare 60 meals and serve them at the Southside Community Center to those in need on Monday.

The owner, Mike Dawoud, of Café on the Square, will be serving the meals at 5 PM for the next four weeks starting Monday, April 6.

Many local businesses in San Marcos are struggling to keep their doors open, and Café on the Square is no exception.

But families are struggling too with the closures of all but essential businesses and facilities; many workers have been laid off.

Family and friends said Dawoud is a good man and providing the meals out of “the goodness of his heart” to help struggling members of the community.

The menu for the Monday night events is likely to change every week.

The restaurant’s regular menu offers a variety of options from tacos and burritos to Grilled Salmon to soup and the traditional burger.

While the dining room is closed, Café on the Square is among the local restaurants offering curbside and delivery options through Favor, Ubereats, Grubhub, or Delivery.com.

Dawoud is accepting donations to help the cause and will match them to continue serving meals to those in need for the next few weeks.

Donations can be made over the phone at 512-396-9999 or via check, which can be dropped off through the Café’s curbside pick-up service.
