EVENT: 4-week CREATION Health seminar

DESCRIPTION: This 4-week CREATION Health seminar will kick off on September 1 and takes place every Wednesday evening through September 22. This entertaining and educational series will teach you eight essential principles to improve your health and longevity. Attendees who complete the entire 4-week course will receive a $20 HEB Gift Card and Healthy Choice Grocery Tour.

EVENT: Free glucose checks and diabetes assessments

DESCRIPTION: CTMC offers free glucose checks and diabetes assessments on the first Wednesday of each month.

EVENT: 9/11 Memorial Luncheon

DATE: September 10

TIME: 11:30-1:00 (Doors open at 11:00)

LOCATION: San Marcos Activity Center (501 E. Hopkins St.; San Marcos, TX)

DESCRIPTION: This annual event recognizes first responders and honors those lost during the Sept. 11 attacks. This year’s special guest speaker is Texas Inspector General Stuart Bowen, Jr. from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. Lunch is $10. First responders and military personnel get in free. EVENT: Finding Balance class for seniors

DATE: September 16

TIME: 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

LOCATION: San Marcos Activity Center (501 E. Hopkins St.; San Marcos, TX)

DESCRIPTION: “Finding Balance” is an exercise class designed to help individuals 60 and older to strengthen their balance, which improves safety by decreasing the risk of falls. Added benefits include an improved confidence, enhanced strength and flexibility, a boosted immune system and a maintained or increased level of mobility. People of all activity levels are encouraged to attend. Participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing and rubber-soled shoes.

EVENT: “Exercise and Diabetes” educational program

DATE: September 17

TIME: 6:00 p.m.

LOCATION: CTMC Small Community Classroom (1301 Wonder World Drive; San Marcos, TX)

DESCRIPTION: Physical Therapist Melanie Caldwell will deliver a free educational program about the importance of physical activity for diabetics, the benefits to daily exercise, how exercise can decrease and help manage blood sugar levels, as well as demonstrate easy exercises patients can do at home.

EVENT: 2nd Annual Kids Calendar Art Contest Deadline

DATE: September 18

TIME: 5:00 p.m.

LOCATION: “Art Contest Drop-off Box” in the CTMC Main Lobby (1301 Wonder World Drive; San Marcos, TX)

DESCRIPTION: CTMC invites children 2-18 to create artwork for a 2016 Calendar. This special keepsake calendar will celebrate healthy living by focusing on 8 key principles for living life to the fullest. All entries are free and open to the community. Artwork can be made from any medium, including pastel, oil pastels, pen, pencil, charcoal, acrylics, watercolor, oils and mixed media. There are no limits on the number of entries per student. EVENT: Free Balance Screening

DATE: September 23

TIME: 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

LOCATION: CTMC Rehabilitation Institute (1340 Wonder World Drive, Suite 2100; San Marcos, TX)

DESCRIPTION: CTMC offers free balance screenings to assess your balance, read your blood pressure, determine causes of falls/balance loss, identify areas of weakness, restore function after fall and determine if a referral is needed for a physical therapist or specialist. No referral needed for the screening, but you must reserve your appointment.

EVENT: Deadline to purchase tickets and sponsorships for Stars of Texas Gala

DATE: September 30

TIME: 5:00 p.m.

DESCRIPTION: Plans are underway for the 23rd annual Stars of Texas Gala. Hays County’s premiere black tie event will take place on Sunday, October 11 at Embassy Suites Hotel, Spa and Conference Center. In addition to gourmet dining and a unique silent auction, this year’s gala will feature entertainment by Grammy Award Winner Diamond Rio. Tickets cost $200. This year’s proceeds will benefit the Ingram Heart Center at CTMC, and the event will pay a special tribute to Bruce and Gloria Ingram. Purchase tickets and sponsorships at ctmc.gala.com

EVENT: Pink Party on the Patio

DATE: October 1

TIME: 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.

LOCATION: CTMC Front Entry (1301 Wonder World Drive; San Marcos, TX)

DESCRIPTION: Join Central Texas Medical Center as we kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with live music, the Pink Heals Hays County pink firetruck, a candlelight survivor walk around the CTMC walking trail and a balloon launch honoring those affected by breast cancer. This event will also feature a photo booth, chair massages, after-hours mammograms, refreshments and door prizes.
