EVENT: Gift of Motherhood 5-week series

DATE: September 6, 13, 20, 27 & October 4

TIME: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

LOCATION: Central Texas Medical Center, 1301 Wonder World Dr., San Marcos, TX 78666

DESCRIPTION: Learn what to expect during your childbirth and how you and your partner can get ready. You should attend classes after your 28th week of pregnancy. Topics covered are: your pregnant body, stages of labor, support person’s role, comfort and comping skills (including breating techniques, water therapy, newborn, postpartum, breastfeeding and the Cradle of Care. The class is offered in Spanish by request.

 EVENT: 2017 CREATION Health Calendar Kids Art Contest

DATE: Deadline is September 9

LOCATION: CTMC CREATION Health Walking Trail (1301 Wonder World, Dr.; San Marcos, TX)

DESCRIPTION: Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) is pleased to present its 3rd Annual Kids Calendar Art Contest. CTMC invites children 3-18 to create artwork for a 2017 Calendar. This special keepsake calendar will celebrate healthy living by focusing on 8 great principles for living life to the fullest. All entries are free and open to the community. Entries can be made from any medium, including pastel, oil pastels, pen, pencil, charcoal, acrylics, watercolor, oils and mixed media. There are no limits on the number of entries per student and we encourage everyone to join.

Art entries can be turned in now until September 9th. Entries can be dropped off in the “Art Contest Drop-off Box” placed at the CREATION Health Institute Resource Center located in the main lobby of CTMC, 1301 Wonder World Drive, San Marcos, TX, 78666. We welcome you to invite your friends, family and any contacts to participate in this contest.

EVENT: Lunch-N-Learn: The Benefits of Minimally Invasive Anterior Hip Replacement

DATE: September 13

TIME: 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

LOCATION: Palmer’s Restaurant, 218 Moore Street, San Marcos, TX

DESCRIPTION: Dr. Stuart Shapiro, an orthopedic surgeon with Live Oak Health Partners, will present a lunch-n-learn covering “The Benefits of Minimally Invasive Anterior Hip Replacement.” Lunch will be provided for free, but space is limited. Email Kyrstie.Barber@ahss.org to reserve your seat.


 

EVENT: Diabetes Together: For people with diabetes and their care partners

DATE: September 15

TIME: 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

LOCATION: Central Texas Medical Center Community Classroom, 1301 Wonder World Dr., San Marcos, TX 78666

DESCRIPTION: Join CTMC and Sanofi Diabetes for a free educational program for people with diabetes and their care partners. A care partner may be a friend or family member – anyone who supports you on your diabetes journey. This presentation will be led by an A1C Champions team – JoAnn Henderson Collins, who has diabetes, and her daughter and care partner, Charlene McNary. Their interactive program is designed to strengthen the partnership between care partners and people with diabetes.

During the 60-minute presentation, Collins and McNary will share their story working as a team, provide information about diabetes and controlling blood sugar, give ideas for effective communication and give tips on how to manage diabetes without it becoming the main focus of your relationship.

EVENT: Finding Balance Class for Seniors

DATE: Tuesday, September 20

TIME: 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

LOCATION: San Marcos Activity Center (501 E. Hopkins; San Marcos, TX)

DESCRIPTION: Looking for an exercise class that can help you strengthen your balance? Join CTMC Home Health on the third Tuesday of each month for a variety of activities that will improve your safety and decrease your risk of falls. The classes are designed for those 60 and older at all activity levels. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and rubber-soled shoes. Bring a friend and have some fun!
