City Of San Marcos Announces Need For Volunteers For City Boards, Commissions

Citizens may fill out volunteer interest forms and send them to the City Clerk’s office by Tuesday, January 8, to be considered for appointment.

On Tuesday, the City of San Marcos announced it was seeking to fill positions on more than 20 City boards and commissions with dedicated volunteers from throughout the community.

Citizens may fill out volunteer interest forms and send them to the City Clerk’s office by Tuesday, January 8, to be considered for appointment.

Qualifications, duties and the length of service vary according to the board.  The City Council appoints members to the following boards and commissions (boards with * have special requirements for some or all positions):

  1. Airport Advisory Board *
  2. Animal Shelter Advisory Board *
  3. Arts Commission *
  4. Citizen Utility Advisory Board *
  5. Construction Board of Appeals
  6. Cemetery Commission
  7. Charter Review Commission *
  8. Civil Service Commission (City Manager Appointment) *
  9. Convention & Visitor Bureau *
  10. Economic Development Board *
  11. Ethics Commission *
  12. Historic Preservation Commission *
  13. Housing Authority *
  14. Human Services Advisory Board  *
  15. Library Board *
  16. Main Street Advisory Board *
  17. Neighborhood Commission *
  18. Parks & Recreation Board *
  19. Planning & Zoning Commission *
  20. San Marcos Commission on Children and Youth *
  21. San Marcos Industrial Development Corp.
  22. San Marcos Youth Commission *
  23. Senior Citizen Advisory Board
  24. Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee *
  25. Zoning Board of Adjustments *

Volunteer forms are available at:  http://www.sanmarcostx.gov/DocumentCenter/View/7650/Boards-Commissions-Application-2019 and may be filled out and emailed to Tammy Cook, tkcook@sanmarcostx.gov.  The forms may also be mailed to the City Clerk’s office, 630 E. Hopkins, San Marcos Texas 78666 or faxed to 855-246-9100.

Residents are asked to submit their interest forms by Jan. 8, 2019. The City Council is scheduled to review the applications and make appointments at the Feb. 5, 2019, City Council meeting. Appointed volunteers will take their seats on March 1, 2019.
