San Marcos PD warns of worsening icy road conditions

SAN MARCOS — The San Marcos Police Department said that calls for crashes are beginning to increase as roads turn dangerously slick with ice. SMPD asks residents to avoid travel, if possible.
The City of San Marcos said that emergency crews are currently responding to multiple crashes along Highway 80 and IH-35. City crews are out treating streets and we have requested more de-icing treatment on IH-35.
Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said that the county has been receiving more requests for TxDOT to de-ice roads and bridges and there has been an increase countywide of cars sliding off of roads.
Central Texas is still anticipating cold weather for the next few days. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory, where winds could gust as high as 35 mph and produce wind chill values in the single digits and teens Thursday through Friday night.
Local officials ask that residents stay home and off of roads unless it is an emergency emergency, as more ice is expected to accumulate as temperatures remain below freezing.
