City of Buda Breaks Ground on Municipal Facility & Public Safety Building
BUDA, TX – Today City leaders, staff, dignitaries, and the community celebrated the groundbreaking for the new Municipal Facility and Public Safety building.
“We are pleased to be breaking ground on the Municipal Facility and Public Safety Building,” said City Manager Kenneth Williams. “The Municipal Facility will make it easier for citizens to access city services in one central location, while also providing a safe secure environment with the emergency operation space.”
Located at the corner of Main and East Loop Street, the City Hall and Library building will house the Library and City administrative offices, City Council Chambers, and the Economic Development Corporation. The 54,683 square foot facility includes community multi-purpose space and an emergency preparedness space.
“We are so excited for our new library,” said Library Director Melinda Hodges. “With the additional space, we’ll be able to add more books, more technology, have more programs, and just be able to serve our community better.”
The new Public Safety building will be located northeast of the City Hall and Library on the same property and will be the new home for the Buda Police Department. At 14,420 interior square feet, the facility will provide a reception area for the public, a community meeting room for public meetings and interdepartmental training, a gated enclosure for secure officer parking, and many other features.
“We are grateful for the vision and forward thinking of City Council and the community to keep us Policing Forward. Without the community’s support, this new building would not have been possible. The new Public Safety facility will help us better serve the citizens of Buda and will provide room for our department to grow,” said Police Chief Bo Kidd.
Public Works started clearing the property earlier this summer. They are currently conducting drainage work on the site.
The Municipal Facility and Public Safety building are part of a $55 million dollar bond approved by voters in November of 2014. Both are targeted for completion in the spring of 2018.
