2017 San Marcos Homicide Suspect Arrested In Stephenville

The suspect of a 2017 San Marcos Homicide was arrested yesterday in North Texas and is awaiting transfer to Hays County jail.

Erath Sheriff’s Office arrested the suspect in a 2017 San Marcos homicide on Thursday, September 27, morning.

Twenty-eight-year-old Jesus Villarreal Jr. was arrested in North Texas on charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence regarding the death of his roommate, Robert Castaneda, in October 2017.

Villarreal is accused of having shot and killed his roommate.

On October 16, 2017, San Marcos Police Department responded to Twin Lakes Villas to investigate a man reported unresponsive. Castaneda, 31, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso and arm. The victim was declared deceased at the scene.

According to officials, U.S. Marshals arrested Villarreal at a Super 8 Motel in Stephenville. He was booked into Erath County Jail. Currently, he is waiting to be transferred to Hays County jail to face charges.

Castaneda’s death was the fourth homicide in San Marcos in 2017.
