Gary Job Corps Spreads Christmas Cheer, Cadet Honored By Sights & Sounds And San Marcos

Gary Job Corps Center supports the Job Corps program’s mission to teach eligible young people the skills they need to become employable and independent and place them in meaningful jobs or further education…

Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 to 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training.

Sights & Sounds and San Marcos Marshall Honor Gary Cadet Michael Lewis

Awarding Gary Job Corps Cadet Michael Lewis for heroic and lifesaving action at the San Marcos Sights and Sounds of Christmas is San Marcos Chief Ranger Scott Raven and Sights and Sounds Board Member Elva Zdeb. 

Chief Ranger Scott stated, “I think he showed great courage by stepping up, responding to the situation, stopping the bleeding, getting on his radio to call his supervisor, and keeping the person calm awaiting the arrival of EMS. Everything came together and Michael made it happen very smoothly in the circumstance.”

Sights and Sounds Board Member, Elva Zdeb, added, “We are so thankful for the quick action the  Gary Job Corps Cadet Lewis provided, and of the professionalism  of the entire Gary Job Corps Cadet Team.”

For over 15 years the Gary Job Corps Corrections/Security Cadets have assisted the Sights and Sounds of San Marcos with traffic and crowd control.

Spreading Christmas Cheer with Greater San Marcos Youth Council

Gary Job Corps staff, students, and San Marcos Embassy Suites donated toys, gift cards, and $400 cash to ensure the children at the shelter have a very Merry Christmas. 

Over the years the partnership between the Gary Job Corps and San Marcos Embassy Suites have spread the joy by not only giving to the GSMYC, but assisting the Hay Caldwell County Women’s Center, local nursing homes with Christmas Caroling, giving cards and cooks for Valentine’s, Father’s, and Mother’s Day.
