SAN MARCOS, Texas — The Texas State women’s basketball team and head coach Zenarae Antoine have announced the addition of Rodney Hill as an assistant coach Wednesday afternoon. Hill joins the Bobcat coaching staff after spending the past season with TCU and will be responsible for coaching the forwards and post players as well as recruiting, scouting, and managing the team’s Adidas equipment account.

“I am extremely excited to work with Coach Z,” stated Hill. “She has seen tremendous success throughout her career and here at Texas State. She has an exciting vision that the staff, team, and administration believe in and I am excited to jump in and do my part.”

“Rodney has a passion for coaching women’s basketball that is evident when you speak to him,” said Antoine. “He has learned from one of the best in college athletics in Coach Gary Blair. In addition, he was able to coach at the Division II level before coming back home to Texas to work with Coach Raegan Pebley at TCU.”

Prior to being hired by Texas State, Hill worked with the WNBA’s Dallas Wings during its 2016 preseason camp. With the Wings, Hill assisted the coaching staff with on-court workouts and practices, handled a few video and other miscellaneous tasks and was also a practice player.

Hill spent last season working under the direction of TCU head coach Raegan Pebley as a video coordinator where he prepared multiple scouting reports for Big XII and non-conference opponents as well as creating team and individual highlights for players, staff, and recruits. In addition, Hill assisted the coaching staff during all practices as well as providing assistance with recruiting and camps.

Prior to his time at TCU, Hill spent a season as an assistant coach at Urbana University where he was the lead recruiter for four of the 2015 Urbana freshman class recruits. Two of those recruits ranked in the top 64 in the Ohio Girls Basketball Reports. Day-to-day responsibilities included film breakdown, opponent scouting reports, assisting the head coach in offensive implementation, and creating defensive schemes that take away opponents strengths. Hill was also in charge of the academic success of the women’s basketball team who finished with a 3.3 team GPA in the fall of 2014.

Hill was a student at Texas A&M where he spent four seasons as a student assistant and practice player for the women’s basketball team. Under the tutelage of Gary Blair, one of the most successful women’s basketball coaches in the country, Hill held many responsibilities including breakdown of opponent and practice film for scout team preparation, assisting coaches and players in individual workouts, organizing community service activities for the team, and assisting in camp coordination for every level of camp.

While at Texas A&M, Hill worked the 2011 squad that went to the Championship Game as well as three-time AP All-American and three-time First-Team All-SEC selection Courtney Walker and two-time Second-Team All-SEC selection Courtney Williams.

“I am excited to be part of the Texas State community,” added Hill. “There is no question that Bobcat nation is on the rise athletically, but more importantly academically, and it is a great time to be a Texas State Bobcat.”

Hill is a 2014 graduate of Texas A&M with a major in Sociology. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in the MLA Program at TCU.

“Coach Rodney will immediately be able to step into the positive culture that we have here at Texas State and help complement our coaching staff and overall program,” added Antoine.

He is a student of the game, and is always trying to learn something new about basketball. He has done everything in his power to become a coach, and has worked his way up the right way.
