EDITORIAL NOTE
According to the CDC, the State of Texas and Hays County Public Health all give the same disclaimer on all current counts and totals. “The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a very fluid situation, and it will continue to be. All case numbers and totals are subject to change. As new information becomes available, we will publish those updates.”
Hays County Courthouse, TX – Hays County Local Health Department (HCLHD) reports two (2) COVID-related fatalities between Dec. 22 and Dec. 28, 2021: a Buda man in his 50s and a San Marcos woman in her 70s. The department also reports 1,229 new lab-confirmed cases along with 19 new hospitalizations and 11 new hospital discharges since the last update.

There are 185 additional persons considered recovered. The total number of persons considered recovered is 30,316. The current total of lab-confirmed cases for Hays County since the beginning of the pandemic is 32,239.
Hays County has 1,510 active cases. In the past 21 days there have been 1,661 active cases. Hays County has had 1,413 total COVID-related hospitalizations and 20 people are currently hospitalized. Of those, 16 people (80%) are unvaccinated.
With the upcoming holiday, the HCLHD reminds county residents to take precautions especially if traveling or they have family and friends coming to town. Some simple measures can help slow the spread of the virus, including frequent hand washing, social distancing and wearing a mask when indoors around large groups of people.
You may need a vaccination prior to travel to certain locales; see the list below for vaccine opportunities. Children age 5-11 are eligible to receive pediatric doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
