HAYS COUNTY – On Tuesday, October 5, a Hays High School student was arrested after bringing an airsoft gun to school and threatening the campus.

According to school officials, no staff or students were harmed.

Principal David Pierce said the district became aware of the situation Tuesday morning after students overheard a student on the cell phone saying he had a gun and was planning to use it at school.

According to Pierce, an administrator approached the student and determined he had an airsoft gun in his backpack. An airsoft gun is a replica gun made to look realistic and shoot small pellets like BBs.

“Bringing a firearm, or replica, on campus and making threats is a serious offense,” Pierce said in a statement sent to parents. “Know that we will always take whatever action is necessary to ensure that our Hays Hawks are safe every day.”

The student has not been identified, and the district has not said of the student will face criminal charges.
