Johnson HS Evacuated Due To Gas Smell

On Friday, First responders evacuated Johnson High School due to a gas smell.

According to officials, the gas company was at JHS making repairs and running tests on the building.

Corridor News is awaiting a further update. Below is the letter sent to parents by Hays Consolidated Independent School District officials this afternoon.

Dear JHS Parents,

We are canceling classes for the remainder of the day at Johnson High School so that first reponders and our maintenance crews can do a thorough check of the building.

Students and staff members are currently evacuated outside of JHS in the parking lot. They are being escorted to the gym at Carpenter Hill Elementary School next door. This will get them out of the cold and windy weather.

Everyone is safe and OK. If you wish to come now to pick up your child, you can do so. Buses will run at their regular schedule. Students will be picked up from Carpenter Hill instead of JHS.

Because the students were evacuated quickly, many may not have their personal items with them, including their cell phones. Please do not be alarmed if you are not able to get an answer from your child.

No one is allowed in the building at this time to retrieve personal items. We do not have an estimated time the building will be cleared. More information on that to come as soon as it is available.

All after school activities, including tonight’s up and coming dance, have been canceled for tonight and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Sincerely,

Tim Savoy
