Juveniles Steal Car; One Shoots Self In Leg

The reports of this incident involving Broadway Bank at 301 N CM Allen included in the Texas State Police alert released at 3:28 a.m. this morning are not correct.

San Marcos police are investigating an early morning car theft involving juveniles, one of whom police say accidentally shot himself in the leg during the incident.

At 3:28 a.m., San Marcos police responded to a report of shots fired at Hutchison and Moon Street and found two juveniles, one of whom had suffered an accidental, self-inflicted gunshot wound to his left calf with a sawed-off shotgun.

In the course of their investigation, officers determined that three juveniles were involved in the theft of a silver 2011 Subaru Outback (4 door with hatchback) Texas License plate FLH9140 with a black roof rack that was later reported stolen from the Local Downtown apartment complex. The vehicle was left unlocked with the keys inside.

The injured juvenile was transported to an area hospital. Police are questioning the second juvenile; the location of a third juvenile believed to be involved is unknown. Both the weapon and the stolen vehicle remain unaccounted for at this time. It is unknown if the weapon was in the vehicle at the time of the theft or if the juveniles brought the weapon with them.

The public is asked to contact SMPD or local law enforcement if the vehicle is spotted. Police also remind the public to secure car keys in a safe place and not to leave vehicles unlocked.

Police are not releasing more details because the incident involves minors. The following posts on Facebook by UPD have been identified as incorrect.
