On Wednesday, the City of Buda announced the cancelation of its Citizens’ Academy for 2020.

“We believe the academy works best in person due to its interactive nature,” the city said.

Hays County has seen a steady rise in COVID-19 cases since Governor Greg Abbott began reopening the state.

According to officials, the county is currently considered one of the state’s hotspots for Coronavirus.

The Hays County Health Department reported Wednesday that a total of 3,769 patients had been confirmed positive for COVID since March. Of those, the results for 70 patients had come back positive in the last twenty-four hours.

Thus far, a total of 14 people have died due to COVID-19 related complications and over 70 had been hospitalized in the county alone.

Currently, over 2000 Hays County patients are still considered active cases.

The City of Buda said they intend to resume the annual Citizens’ Academy next year, and thanks the community for understanding.
