The week of 8/6 update of upcoming lane and road closures that may impact drivers along US 183 and adjacent roadways in east Austin.

Below is an overview of the 183 South project’s lane, road, and ramp closures.

Work continues along US 183, including bridge construction, roadway installation, sound wall work, utility work. All closures are weather permitting and subject to change.

US 183 South Closures & Detours •

Short Term

Monday through Saturday (8/13-18) from 7 am to 5 pm, Hudson Street will be reduced to one lane between Hibbetts Road and US 183; watch for flaggers to assist traffic through this closure.

 

Monday through Friday (8/13-17) from 9 am to 4 pm, the US 183 southbound frontage road will be reduced by one lane between US 290 and Manor/Springdale Road.

 

Monday through Wednesday (8/13-15) from 8 pm to 6 am, the US 183 northbound exit ramp to Manor/Springdale Road will be closed. Also, Purple Sage Drive will be closed at the US 183 northbound frontage road. Follow signed detours and expect delays.

 

Tuesday through Thursday (8/14-16) from 8 pm to 6 am, the US 183 southbound to northbound U-turn at Levander Loop will be closed. Also, the US 183 southbound mainlanes will be closed near Bolm Road. Follow signed detours and expect delays. If traveling to the airport, please plan ahead.

 

Long Term

The cloverleaf ramp from SH 71 westbound to US 183 southbound will be CLOSED for 10-12 months starting as early as August 13, 2018.

Detour traffic will exit Riverside Drive and take the west to east U-turn to access US 183 southbound. This closure is necessary to facilitate the realignment, reconstruction, and widening of westbound SH 71.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) is an independent government agency created in 2002 to improve the transportation system in Williamson and Travis counties.

According to their website, their mission is “to implement innovative, multi-modal transportation solutions that reduce congestion and create transportation choices that enhance quality of life and economic vitality.”
The Mobility Authority was created and operates under the Texas Transportation Code Chapter 370 and is authorized under state law to implement a wide range of transportation systems including roadways, airports, seaports and transit services.
The Mobility Authority is authorized to issue revenue bonds to fund projects and can utilize user fees and/or taxes to fund operations and repay bonds.
