The week of 8/27 update of short and long term lane, road closures and detours that may impact drivers along US 183 and adjacent roadways in east Austin.

Below is an overview of the 183 South project’s lane, road, and ramp closures.

Work continues along US 183, including bridge construction, roadway installation, sound wall work, utility work. All closures are weather permitting and subject to change.

US 183 South Closures & Detours •

Short Term

Lane Closure for Sound Wall Construction: Tuesday through Friday (9/4-7) from 8 am to 3 pm, the US 183 southbound frontage road will be closed by one lane between US 290 and Manor/Springdale Road.

Construction Zone — Intersection Work:Tuesday through Saturday (9/4-8) from 9 am to 3 pm, there will be various closures of lanes along the northbound and southbound US 183 frontage roads near Manor/Springdale Road. Movement in all directions will be maintained.

Lane Closure for Paving:Tuesday through Wednesday (9/4-5) from 9 am to 3 pm, the US 183 southbound frontage road will be reduced to one lane between Manor/Springdale Road and Purple Sage Drive.

Road Closure for Bridge Construction: Wednesday through Friday (9/5-7) from 8 pm to 6 am, the US 183 southbound mainlanes will be closed at SH 71. All traffic will detour by exiting for westbound SH 71, taking the U-turn at E. Riverside Drive, and heading eastbound on SH 71 to the exit for US 183 southbound. Expect Delays.

Ramp Closure for Bridge Construction: Wednesday (9/5) from 8 pm to 6 am, the US 183 southbound ramp to SH 71 eastbound will be closed. All traffic will detour by exiting for westbound SH 71, taking the U-turn at E. Riverside Drive, and heading eastbound on SH 71. Expect Delays. If headed to the airport, plan ahead.

Lane Closure for Utility Work: Thursday (9/6) from 9 am to 4 pm, westbound MLK Jr., Blvd will be reduced to one lane between Regency Drive and US 183.

Roadway Base Installation: Continuously between Monday, September 10, at 9 am until Saturday, November 10, at 6 pm, Bluestein Drive west of US 183 will be closed at US 183. All traffic will detour via TechniCenter Drive with Hudson Street as an alternate route.

Long Term

The cloverleaf ramp from SH 71 westbound to US 183 southbound will be CLOSED for 10-12 months starting as early as August 13, 2018.

Road Closure for Roadway Base Installation: Continuously from Monday (4/16/2018) at 9 am to Monday (4/1/2019) at 5 pm, Smith Road, west of US 183, and Thurgood Avenue will be closed at the US 183 southbound mainlanes. Follow signed detours.

Road Closure for Roadway Base Installation: Continuously between Thursday, (6/14/2018) at 8 pm until Monday, (4/1/2019) at 5 pm, Vargas Road will be closed at US 183. Follow signed detour.

Road Closure for Roadway Base Installation: Continuously between Thursday, (6/1/2018) at 6 am until Monday, (4/1/2019) at 6 am, Eastgate will be closed at the US 183 southbound mainlanes. Follow signed detour.

Road Closure for Utility Work: Continuously through late December 2018, at 6 am, Tracor Lane and Marcel Gres will be closed at US 183.

Lane Closure for Roadway Base Installation: Central Avenue and Bluestein Drive are temporarily closed at their intersections with northbound US 183 for utility work and will remain closed through 2018. Traffic is being detoured via Techni Center Drive and Semi-Conductor Drive.

Road Closure for Bridge Construction: Continuously through December 2018, Levander Loop will be closed at the US 183 northbound turnaround. Follow the signed detour.

Ramp Closure for Bridge Construction: Beginning as early as Sunday, August 26, at 6 pm and lasting approximately 10-12 months, the SH 71 westbound exit ramp to US 183 southbound will be closed. Detour by exiting for the U-turn at E. Riverside Drive and heading eastbound on SH 71 to the US 183 southbound exit.

Lane Closure for Roadway Base Installation: Continuously between Monday, September 10, at 9 am until Saturday, November 10, at 6 pm, Bluestein Drive west of US 183 will be closed at US 183. All traffic will detour via Technicenter Drive with Hudson Street as an alternate route.

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA) is an independent government agency created in 2002 to improve the transportation system in Williamson and Travis counties.

According to their website, their mission is “to implement innovative, multi-modal transportation solutions that reduce congestion and create transportation choices that enhance quality of life and economic vitality.”
The Mobility Authority was created and operates under the Texas Transportation Code Chapter 370 and is authorized under state law to implement a wide range of transportation systems including roadways, airports, seaports and transit services.
The Mobility Authority is authorized to issue revenue bonds to fund projects and can utilize user fees and/or taxes to fund operations and repay bonds.
