UPDATED: Neighborhood Evacuated During Monday SWAT Standoff

Around 8:45 AM, the San Marcos Police Department issued a shelter-in-place for the Smith and Sherbarb Streets; residents were told to remain in their homes unless evacuated by police.

A man shot a woman and barricaded himself in a home before fatally shooting himself Monday morning.

The incident began when a vehicle pulled up to a convenience store on SH 80 at 8 a.m. Witnesses saw a woman screaming and trying to leave the vehicle, and a man pushed her back in and drove off.

One of the witnesses took down the license plate number of the vehicle and called 911, and police were able to find the vehicle at a residence at 315 Smith Lane.

The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the face and ran outside the home. SMPD officers responding to the residence put her in a patrol unit and evacuated her from the area. EMS was then called.

She was transported to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.

The man barricaded himself in the residence, and police evacuated several nearby homes as SWAT formed a perimeter around the residence. After a brief standoff, a SWAT robot entered the home, and police found the man deceased of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

The man was identified as Troy Ranard Jackson (DOB 10/3/1975). He was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Jo Anne Prado at 10:55 a.m. The man and the victim were in a relationship.

Residents were allowed to return to their homes at approximately 10 a.m.

SMPD Victim Services is at the site, which remains an active crime scene.
