Democratic candidate Moira Zinn announces campaign for Hays County Commissioner, Precinct 4

Staff Reports

DRIPPING SPRINGS – Moira Zinn, a new Democratic centrist candidate, announced her campaign against incumbent Walt Smith for Hays County Commissioner, Precinct 4.

Moira Zinn is entering the election on a Democratically minded middle ground, reflecting her varied life interests and broad business background.

Zinn believes that her interests reflect both a broad perspective in life and an understanding that while the current political conversation seems to be that of extremes, the reality of most citizens of the Lone Star State are decidedly more centrist.

“I think that the reality of our political wires is that once you meet people face to face, you learn that we are significantly closer than we appear to be on social media or the way media tends to depict the citizenry,” says Zinn from her Dripping Springs campaign office. “While I am a Democrat and socially liberal, I feel now is also the time for fiscal conservancy and helping a new generation’s voice be a part of the conversation.”

According to a press release sent by her campaign office, Zinn is a gun-toting, motorcycle-riding feminist who pilots both electric and classic vehicles. Her husband works in oil and gas, and she is the loving mother of two young women. Her belief and experience are that reasonable conversations create results in a manner that helps a society grow together.

Zinn was encouraged to run for Commissioner as she watched Hays County expand in population with little regard for the general infrastructure. She believes that her business training has given her the insight that such a haphazard approach will create community issues, inefficiencies and will reduce the quality of life for residents and property owners.

According to the press release, Moira was not born here; but she got here as fast as she could. Moira moved to Texas twenty years ago from Minnesota and comes from a family with generations in farming and ranching the rural areas of North Dakota and Wisconsin. Moira moved to central Texas to share in the community’s appreciation for the natural aspects of Hill Country life that are now at risk due to rapid expansion.

Moira has worked in the dynamic fields of motorcycling and Powersports since 2007, starting her career at Harris Hill Road in San Marcos, TX. Since then, she expanded her business to work with major vehicle manufacturers as a vendor, consultant, and direct advocate. The work has included managing budgets, balancing personalities, brand goals, ever-changing shifts in business and consumer interaction, and rejecting stereotypical and myopic approaches to develop new solutions.

Moira views her move into local politics as an additional chapter in her life. Those interested can find more information on the campaign on her website.
