JOHNSON CITY, Texas — In 2017, Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC) experienced record growth, surpassing 300,000 active accounts and installing more than 13,000 meters. PEC is the largest distribution electric cooperative in the United States and already powers approximately one million lives across Central Texas.

The cooperative is proud to report it’s on track for another year of widespread growth across its 8,100-square-mile service area, which includes six of the 15 fastest growing counties in Texas.

PEC’s operations crews have completed more than 1,400 member line extensions — building out more than 54 miles of new line — and installed more than 3,300 meters in the first quarter of 2018 alone.

“Central Texas is growing at an unprecedented rate, and much of that growth continues to be in our service area,” said Julie Parsley, PEC’s chief executive officer. “We’re proud to welcome these members to our cooperative, and we’re working diligently and proactively to manage and prepare for future growth.”

Even with record growth, PEC members continue to enjoy safe and reliable electric service. On average, a member’s power has a chance of being interrupted only once every 1.5 years, with that interruption lasting less than one hour.

“Serving our members is what we do best,” said Eddie Dauterive, PEC’s chief operations officer. “Whether they are new to our cooperative or have been a valued member with us for decades, we strive to provide the best service possible. It takes an incredible team to accomplish what we do every day, and I look forward to the progress we’ll make together.”

During this milestone growth, the cooperative is also celebrating its 80th anniversary. To learn more about PEC’s rich history and what the cooperative is doing today, visit pec.coop.
