The Hays County Commissioners Court made way for an eco-conscious Robotic Commercial Laundry Facility called Cooperative Laundry to open in San Marcos.

Renovations of a 90,000 square-foot building at 1225 Fortuna Road will begin in October with plans to open by spring 2022 next to the new 1 million-square-foot Amazon facility.

Cooperative Laundry will offer at least 100 full-time jobs and approximately $6.5 million in added tax value to the county.

The Hays County Commissioners have discussed the economic development of “Project Robot” and reached an agreement with Cooperative Laundry that they feel will benefit the county.

Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra considers it a “magnificent deal” for the county.

“I’m so grateful for the investment in our community,” said Becerra. “And more importantly, as we see populations shift in our region, this is an investment in our region.”

According to Cooperative Laundry’s website, the company provides an efficient and environmentally conscious service that is the only system of its kind in North America.

“We’ve implemented the only system of its kind in North America, providing a fully automated workflow that reduces typical laundry errors by up to 80%, eliminates human error in handling and sorting processes, cleans deeper, presses and folds better and causes less damage than conventional equipment,” Cooperative Laundry states on their website. “It also cuts water and power consumption by up to 50%.”
