On Thursday, Jan. 3, the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce announced the date of the 2019 Transportation Summit.

The Transportation Summit is an annual event bringing together members of the community and business leaders to receive a regional mobility update.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Terry McCoy, Austin District Engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation.

A TxDOT veteran since 1989, McCoy started his career in the Burnet Area Office. He served in the South Travis Area Engineers office before going to the Design Division in 1994.

He was assigned to the San Antonio District in 1995. In 2002, McCoy returned to the Burnet Area Office as area engineer before taking over as the North Austin area engineer in August 2004.

He then accepted the position of director of transportation planning and development for the Austin District in 2011. McCoy was Austin deputy district engineer from 2013 to 2015.

In 2013, McCoy received the Luther DeBerry Award from the Texas Transportation Institute for his outstanding contributions to the State of Texas in the field of transportation.

Following the keynote speaker will be a panel of experts, who will discuss the role of San Marcos in regional mobility, what to expect in the next five years and how local leaders plan to tackle I-35, local congestion and the role of tech in mobility.

The event will take place on January 29, 2019, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at the San Marcos Convention Center. This article will be updated when the chamber announces the names of the panelists.
