San Marcos Man Found In Austin

San Marcos Police Department, with assistance from the public, located Jonathan Russell this afternoon. Russell was reported missing earlier this week. Police reached out to the public on social media and those efforts, as well as assistance from local media, led police to Russell. He was found in Austin unharmed.

Media and social media outreach efforts by the department caught the attention of a citizen who recognizes Russell. The San Marcos Police Department would like to thank Detective Brady Templeton for his outreach efforts in helping to locate Russell. “The department is also very grateful to the local media and citizens who spread the message and took action to help find this man and give his family some peace of mind,” said Assistant Chief of Operations Bob Klett.

Russell’s family and friends reported him missing after he failed to show up for work several days in a row. His phone was also off for an extended period of time and no one was able to locate him. Police were also concerned about Russell’s safety because he was not dressed for the current weather conditions, has no residence, and his only mode of transportation is his bicycle. Police say the young man was not hurt and was not in need of any services.

San Marcos Police Department needs your help to locate a missing man who they believe may be endangered.

Jonathan Russell (09-29-89) was last seen Thursday morning riding a gold or rust colored bicycle northbound on the west access road in the 1600 block of IH-35.  Russell is described as a white man, about 6’2” and 219 lbs.  He has brown hair and hazel eyes and was last seen wearing a burnt orange sweatshirt, green t-shirt and blue jeans.  Russell has a phoenix tattooed on his left forearm and a tattoo of a brick wall with the words “established 89 lil John” on his right forearm.

Police believe Russell may be endangered because co-workers at LaQuinta Inn in San Marcos say he has not reported to work since Thursday and they have not heard from him since that time.  His phone was last used in the area of Mill Street and Uhland Street on Tuesday and has since been turned off.  Those close to him say it is uncharacteristic of him to have his phone off for an extended period with no contact with co-workers and family.

His last known address is 800 block of Sagewood Trail.  He moved out of the home and is currently homeless. It is also reported that his vehicle has been repossessed.  Police are also concerned about Russell’s safety because he was not dressed for the current weather conditions, has no residence, and his only mode of transportation is his bicycle.

Russell has been entered into the Texas Crime Information Center and the National Crime Information Center as a missing and endangered person.

Those with information about his whereabouts should contact San Marcos Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 512-753-2300 during business hours or call the San Marcos Police Department at 512-753-2108 after business hours.
