San Marcos Offers Multiple Options For Christmas Tree Recycling

The City of San Marcos is offering several ways to discard live Christmas trees as the holiday season wraps up:

Christmas tree drop off: Now through Jan. 8, 2016 at 401 E Hopkins (Grant Harris parking lot). Trees of all sizes with no ornaments or tinsel will be mulched on site (mulch will be available to residents free of charge).

Curbside Christmas tree service: Now through Jan. 31, 2016. Trees up to 4 feet long can be bundled with twine (no wire) and set out on residents’ normal trash pickup day.

Brush drop off: Jan. 9, 2016 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Monthly brush drop off for brushy waste. The brush drop off can be reached by taking the San Marcos Animal Shelter entrance at 750 River Road and following the signs.

Artificial trees and broken string lights: Green Guy Recycling, located at 937 HWY 80, will take artificial trees and string lights.

Leaf disposal: Bobcat Blend is collecting leaves at the parking lot of the Grant Harris Building at 401 E. Hopkins through January 8. Leaves and grass clippings can be brought in trash or paper bags and deposited in the cage trailer.

Leaves should be free of trash or other non-biodegradable materials. Large branches should not be included because the program does not have a means to grind them. The leaves will be used to make compost.

Friday trash services will move to Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016 for the New Year’s Day holiday.
