The City of Buda is pleased to announce Greg Olmer as our new Parks and Recreation Director.  Olmer comes to Buda with 15 years of Parks and Recreation experience.

Prior to accepting the position in Buda, Olmer served as the Superintendent of Recreation for the City of Wichita, Kansas. “As the new Park and Recreation Director, I want to continue to enhance and expand opportunities that contribute to quality of life and the high standards held by the City of Buda,” said Olmer.  “I would also like to expand the scope of services provided to include more recreational programming. In order to achieve this, it will require establishing partnerships with other civic minded organizations that have similar goals and aspirations. I look forward to meeting with the Council Members, local civic leaders, stakeholders and the public to help the City fulfill its long range master plans and short term goals.”

This isn’t Olmer’s first stint in Texas. He worked for the City of Georgetown as Recreation Supervisor for nine years before heading to Kansas.

“The City of Buda is a wonderful community that supports and appreciates the benefits of parks,” said Olmer. “The recent bond election is a prime example of the value placed in parks to not only conserve open space but to also develop future park land that will attract new families to the area. As a father of three, I was thrilled to see the robust system of current parks and amenities and the plan for future parks. As a former resident of the City of Georgetown, TX I also appreciate the similar small town atmosphere and the plan for future growth being in place. “

Olmer holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Community Health and Physical Education from the University of Nebraska, and a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certification from the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA).

Olmer’s first day as Parks and Recreation Director is Oct. 2, 2017.
