San Marcos To Host Community Gathering For Gas Station Mural

The City of San Marcos will host a community gathering with artists Jennifer Khoshbin and Celia Mendoza, who will gather public input on a mural they will create at the Conoco gas station on Hwy 123, on Thursday, June 20, at 6 PM at Sinai Pentecostal Church, 208 Laredo Street.

The community input session will allow the artists to finalize a theme for the Conoco mural, which will help deter graffiti and beautify a highly visible gateway into the neighborhood.

They gathered initial feedback from residents of the neighborhood in May during Party in Your Park in Swift Memorial Park, asking residents to share their experiences in the neighborhood and tell them what makes their neighborhood unique.

“Khoshbin and Mendoza bring artistry and community service together to create bold, thoughtful, public art,” said Arts Coordinator Trey Hatt.  “Together, these women bring decades of experience in artwork, architecture, and community building.”

The artists have been exhibited in galleries both nationally and internationally and have contributed widely to public art programs, including many works in San Antonio, Dallas, and New York City.
