San Mercado To Move To Second Saturday

San Marcos, TX – San Marcos’ only monthly community market – the Price Center’s San Mercado – is moving from the fourth Saturday of each month to the second, beginning June 8, to join what’s becoming an impressive line-up of free, family-friendly, day-through-night activities each month in downtown San Marcos.

“We’re excited to be joining this engaging line-up of events and are certain our move will give Mercado guests and the visitors to the other downtown events, more to do each visit,” said Clay DeStefano, executive director.

San Mercado activities take place in the Garden and throughout the various indoor venues of the Price Center from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  Fresh art shows, an ever-evolving variety of vendors, musical entertainment, and kid-friendly activities provide a great, culturally-diverse time for all.  The Price Center also offers an assortment of drinks for $1 donations, including bottled water, coffee, and soft drinks.

Beginning June 8, downtown San Marcos visitors can enjoy an array of free, family-friendly activities taking place from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and beyond every second Saturday. Standing events include the San Marcos Farmer’s Market (9-1), Art Squared (9-4), a curated artisan market, San Mercado (9-4), and, now, the Downtown Walkabout (4-7 and beyond).

Interested in participating in San Mercado? Current booths range from flea market vendors, live plants, fresh baked goods, boutique to jewelry vendors, retail clothiers, makers of handmade goods, and independent retailers like Mary Kay and Tupperware. San Mercado booths are available, welcomed and encouraged for both private and retail vendors. “Multi-family” booths welcome. Vendors pay $20 for outdoor booths and $30 for indoor booths.

Vendor spaces are filled on a first come, first served basis and advanced registration is advised. Participants will need to bring their own tents, tables and necessary display equipment. Set up is from 8-9 a.m. on the day of the event.  A limited number of ‘6 tables are available for rent at $10 each.

There will not be a Mercado held on May 25, in order to help vendors and event planners a chance to retool the event for its new day of the month.

Admission to the Mercado is free and open to all. The monthly market is made possible in part through grant funds from the San Marcos Arts Commission. Proceeds from booth rentals benefit the Price Center, which is operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association (GSMASA), a 501 (c) 3 non-profit.

For more information, including reserving booth space, please call 512-392-2900, stop by the Center at 222 W. San Antonio St. Mon. – Fri., 9-5 p.m., or visit price-center.org or Facebook @ Price Center & Garden.
