SMPD Seeking Certified Officers To Join SMTX Family
The San Marcos Police Department is hosting an entrance exam for certified applicants on Saturday, June 6 that includes a potential $3,000 hiring incentive for those chosen.
In order to qualify for the exam, registrants must be currently licensed by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) as a Peace Officer or anticipated to graduate no later than July 31.
Officers hired from this process will be eligible for a $3,000 hiring incentive with $1,500 at hire and $1,500 upon successful completion of training.
The starting annual salary for SMPD officers is between $57,163 and $64,913, based on experience.
“At this time, our department is looking to add at least six qualified and community-oriented officers to our SMPD family,” said Commander Lee Leonard. “We would love to see a record number of interested candidates respond.”
