TWC Announces Finalists For 2018 Texas Workforce Solutions Employers Of The Year

AUSTIN – The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) announced today that Samsung Austin Semiconductor of Austin, Lowe’s Companies Inc. of Aransas Pass and Eaton’s B-Line of Sherman are the finalists for the 2018 Texas Workforce Solutions Large Employer of the Year Award.

KAT Excavation & Construction Inc. of Sour Lake, Presco Products of Sherman and La Voz 93.3 FM of Abilene are the finalists for the 2018 Texas Workforce Solutions Small Employer of the Year Award.

TWC has also honored Prudential Financial Inc. (Prudential) of El Paso with this year’s Veteran Friendly Employer of the Year Award, which honors a private-sector employer whose efforts to recruit and hire veterans have had a significant effect on the local workforce development area and across the state.

Prudential currently has 180 full-time employees, of which 97 are veterans. Prudential recognizes that military talent brings unique qualities and experiences to their organization that strengthens the overall organizational collaboration and innovation

Hughs. “These exemplary private-sector finalists demonstrate excellence and contribute to our thriving economy and job growth, as well as setting new standards for Texas employers. TWC is honored to recognize their outstanding efforts and achievements.”

The seven finalists were chosen from among 64 private-sector employers nominated by local workforce partners for their contributions to the Texas workforce through innovation and collaboration with their local Workforce Solutions Office and their local community.

These employers exemplify TWC’s mission to promote and support a workforce system that creates value and offers employers, individuals and communities the opportunity to achieve and sustain economic prosperity.

“Congratulations to our finalists, who show great commitment for supporting local communities and to their employees while providing growth in a constructive work setting,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Julian Alvarez. “These companies embody the dedication to the Texas workforce with the ongoing commitment to training efforts and workforce advancements.”

The 2018 Employer of the Year winners will be announced at the 22nd Annual Texas Workforce Conference Employer Award luncheon, which will take place at the Hilton-Americas in Houston on Thursday, Nov. 29.

“All Texas employers deserve recognition for their courageous decision to face risk and overcome challenges on a daily basis in order to create careers for Texans in exciting industries across our state,” said TWC Commissioner Representing the Public Robert D. Thomas. “The seven employers recognized as TWC award finalists go even further in support of their communities by establishing effective partnerships that address local challenges and propel area industry to greater success. I thank each of these employers for their efforts and congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition.”

Also being honored at the luncheon are 28 Local Employer of Excellence award recipients who will be recognized for their involvement with the Texas workforce system and the positive contributions they have made to employers, workers and their communities.
