San Marcos Monthly Sales Tax Allocations Down First Month Of Fiscal Year 2018
For the first month of the City of San Marcos’ FY 2018 budget, their sales tax revenue/allocations were down 8.34 percent from last month and 5.52 percent year to date.
The FY 2018 budget projects the cities sales tax allocation revenue to be $32,002,025 million, which is a 10.964 percent increase over last year.
During a meeting on September 19, the San Marcos City Council passed their 2018 Fiscal Year budget of $213,653,024 million, which is 10.44 percent, or $26.9 million, over FY 2017.
During that same meeting, council voted in a 8.37 cent increase in property taxes, which sets the cities property tax rate at 61.39 cents on each $100 of taxable value of property.
Additionally, during their September 5 meeting the council passed an increase of five percent in rates for Water, Wholesale Water, Reclaimed Water, Wastewater Treatment and Sewer Surcharges, increased rates for both Residential and Multifamily Customers of Municipal Solid Waste Programs, a fifteen percent increase in drainage utility rates.
During the same meeting the council voted to file a loan application for $4.4 million with the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) to purchase 342 acres of land from the San Marcos River Foundation, who is currently behind on their loan and have requested multiple extensions.
On the council’s last meeting, October 2, they voted to purchase 20.61 acres on Clovis Barker Rd. for $2.45 million to re-locate the Public Services and Community Services Maintenance Facility.
According to the partial proposed budget that was released, the COSM Finance Dept. estimated the city would receive $32 million in sales tax revenue for the FY 2018 budget (Oct 2017 – Sept 2018).
In total, Texas Comptroller, Glenn Hegar announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $660.4 million in local sales tax allocations for October.
The Texas local governments will receive 1.6 percent more than October of 2016, and Hays County was up 1.78 percent from last month and up 1.76 percent this year to date.
