Melanie Louch-Echevarria

SAN ANTONIO — 20-year-old San Marcos native Melanie Louch-Echevarria was crowned Miss Texas Petite 2020 on August 9 at the Marriott NW San Antonio.

During the pageant, she won Best in Interview along with the state title. With her win, she begins a year full of appearances and community service.

Melanie is now preparing to compete at the 2020 USA Petite Pageant in Chicago from March 24-27, 2021.

If Melanie wins Miss USA Petite, she will become the third consecutive Texan to represent the United States at the Miss Universal Petite Pageant in late 2021.

Melanie is a graduate of San Marcos High School and is now a senior at the University of Houston, where she is majoring in public relations and double-minoring in applied politics and nonprofit studies.

She works as a freelance publicist and media manager.

During her reign, Melanie will promote her nonprofit program, The Leading Ladies Project, which empowers middle and high school girls through positive mentoring relationships.

“I’m proud to bring a Texas title back to my hometown here in San Marcos,” Melanie said. “Although I’ll be traveling all over the state to promote my platform, I’m most excited about serving right here in San Marcos and giving back to the community that gave so much to me growing up.”

The pageant also crowned four other new queens across different age divisions.

Lauren Barrera of Rio Grande City was crowned Pre-Teen Texas Petite, Xiomara Sostre of San Antonio was crowned Teen Texas Petite, Joanna Villarreal of Laredo was crowned Ms. Texas Petite, and Ashley Willis of Killeen was crowned Mrs. Texas Petite.
