Buda City Council Approves Contract For City Park Construction

City Council approved the base bid of $5,346,000 from the Barr Company, with a few alternates, bringing the total cost of the project to $6,083,776.

The Buda City Council approved a contract with The Barr Company for City Park Renovations.

The improvements include a new amphitheater, two new playground areas, a splash pad, new restrooms, and a games and grilling area. The improvements are all part of the Proposition 5 Park and Trail Improvements that were approved in November 2014.

City Council approved the base bid of $5,346,000 from the Barr Company, with a few alternates, bringing the total cost of the project to $6,083,776. Because of rising construction costs, the project came in over the budgeted amount of $4.1 million.

To close the funding gap, the City Council shifted funds from other areas to cover the shortfall, including a transfer of funds from the Parks Capital Fund. Additionally, planned improvements at Summer Pointe will be postponed as those funds will be used to cover the gap.

The City’s Public Works Department has been hard at work grading the site to also help reduce costs. The City is offering sponsorship opportunities for City Park. Premium level sponsorship opportunities are available for naming rights of the larger amenities including the amphitheater and stage, splash pad, playground, etc. Meanwhile, tree level donors will have their name or business memorialized within the park to recognize the donors who helped make the vision a reality.

Construction on City Park will begin in early 2019 and last for approximately 10 to 12 months.

When complete, City Park will become a destination park for the region. It will be capable of hosting large concerts and festivals to serve Buda and the broader region.
