Disaster Check List For Homeowners And Renters Memorial Weekend Flood

1. Keep all receipts for temporary lodging, cleanup and repairs.
2. If you have homeowner’s or renter’s insurance, call your insurance company even if you believe your insurance will not cover the damage. Your insurance company will offer proof that your insurance claim was denied. If you have flood insurance, the National Flood Insurance Program call center can assist you with questions or claims at 1-800-621-3362 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday.
3. Register with FEMA
Until further notice in-person applications for assistance can be made daily, including Saturdays and Sundays, at:

Information can be taken by registrars in English, Spanish and multiple other languages.
4. Homeowners and renters should also submit Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster loan applications even if they are not sure they will want or need a loan. Submitting an SBA loan application allows the SBA to refer you to other types of assistance if you do not qualify for a loan. SBA can assist victims in person at disaster recovery centers, online at www.sba.gov/disaster or by phone at 800-659-2955 (for deaf/hard-of-hearing at 800-877-8339). A paper application can be filled out and mailed to SBA, 14925 Kingsport Rd., Fort Worth, TX 76155-2243.
5. Spend your recovery dollars wisely — hire a reputable local contractor to assist you with electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, propane tank, septic and water well needs as well as any reconstruction of your house. Check with reliable sources, such as the Better Business Bureau and trusted friends and relatives to find the right contractor for your needs. Get a signed contract. Tell your contractor that these services are related to the disaster and are eligible expenses NOT subject to sales tax.
6. If you have a question about your insurance policy, need to know your insurance company contact information or have an insurance-related complaint, call the Texas Department of Insurance Consumer Help Line at 1-800-252-3439, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday, or visit www.tdi.texas.gov.
7. If you have a legal question due to the disaster call the State Bar of Texas Legal Hotline at 800-504-7030 for assistance in English or Spanish
