Friends Of Fine Arts Welcomes Pianist Maria Mika Guenette

Canadian pianist Dr. Maria Mika Guénette will perform her Solo Harpsichord Recital at 8 p.m., Nov. 10, 2014 in the Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.

Guenette is the keyboardist for the East Texas Symphony Orchestra and is staff pianist at Southern Methodist University. She performs solo and collaborative venues in Canada, the United States, Japan and Austria. Guenette has worked with renowned early music specialists, such as Brent Wissick, Gesa Kordes, Barbara Krumdieck and Rebecca Troxler. She received her masters and doctorate degrees at the world-renowned Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y.

“Dr. Guenette is a brilliant musician and scholar,” said Kevin Gilley, assistant to the Dean of Fine Arts and Communication at Texas State. “What a privilege it is for the University and general community to witness such a prodigious talent. This event will be a marvelous opportunity for people to experience music as you’ve never heard it in our new performing arts center.”

The performance is open to the public and tickets may be purchased in advance at www.txstatepresents.com or at the door 30 minutes before the concert. Tickets cost $12 general admission and $7 for students, senior citizens and the military. Parking is available at Edward Gary Street Garage for $5. Seating begins 15 minutes prior to the program.

This event is supported by the Friends of Fine Arts and Communication, a community group that raises funds to support academic areas of art and design, theatre and dance, music, communication studies and journalism and mass communication
