Pie In The Sky Hot Air Balloon Festival Debuts Labor Day Weekend

“Guests will love the evening glows,” event specialist Sarah Watson said. “It’s when all the balloons are on the ground and they light up their propane burners to the music against the night sky.”

Kyle, TX – Colorful hot air balloons will light up the sky in Kyle this Labor Day weekend as the city rolls out the region’s first such event.

The Kyle Pie in the Sky Hot Air Balloon festival aims to bring residents and visitors to Lake Kyle for a weekend of family fun.

About 25 balloons will be part of the inaugural festival, which includes a Friday night glow, Saturday morning mass ascension and Saturday night glow.

“Guests will love the evening glows,” event specialist Sarah Watson said. “It’s when all the balloons are on the ground and they light up their propane burners to the music against the night sky.”

On Saturday morning at sunrise, weather permitting, the entire field of balloons will ascend and float over Kyle.

“It’s really a spectacle to behold,” said Josh Sneed, a long-time balloonist who is serving as the event’s Balloonmeister — the person who orchestrates all things balloon at such events and helps determine the safety of flight based on weather.

“Balloons can stop people in their tracks to watch the colorful display floating overhead.”

Watson said she was excited to announce that the Wells Fargo special shape balloon, which looks like the bank’s stagecoach image, will highlight the lineup.

She believes visitors will love all the balloons, but that the special shapes really draw people to events like this one.

“That special balloon only makes about eight appearances a year,” she said. “We are extremely proud that they selected to appear at Kyle Pie in the Sky.”

The festival weekend will also include live music, and “All Things Pie” area and a children’s corner.

In addition, during the festival, event organizers will attempt to reach a Guinness Book record for the most people named Kyle in one place at the same time.

“If you know anyone named Kyle, invite them to come be part of history,” Watson said.

Kyle Pie in the Sky will take place Sept. 1-2 at Lake Kyle in Kyle, Texas. A full schedule of events and list of balloons is available on the website.
