Holiday Spirit Abounds In Downtown San Marcos

The City of San Marcos invites the public to walk, bike or drive through downtown San Marcos to get in the spirit of the most wonderful time of the year.

These are a few of the City-sponsored installations that will be in place over the next month:

Herons and Hearts Holiday Banners

Visitors to downtown will be greeted by a gateway of herons, hearts, and holiday cheer-themed banners on light posts along Hopkins Street and the downtown square.

These banners were designed and installed by the Convention and Visitor Bureau.

From Our Main Street to Yours, Including Heroes in the Middle East

A holiday mailbox is installed in Kissing Alley until January for public use. Letters must include a postage stamp. Main Street will add a Kissing Alley hallmark on all letters.

The mailbox was initiated during the Downtown Lighting Ceremony when community members helped write around 200 letters for National Guard Unit 133 that just deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan from this area (San Marcos, New Braunfels and Hays County).

Sights and Sounds will also host a card station for the public to send letters to the area’s local troops stationed overseas.

Historic Courthouse Lighting

Special guest Santa Claus joined Emcee Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra on the courthouse steps for the annual lighting tradition on the Square on the evening of Nov. 30.

The City and Hays County worked together to illuminate the Square and the lights will remain throughout the month of December.

Mistletoe & Merry at the Mobility Hub

Main Street is staging its first activation in the recently-opened Mobility Hub at 214 E. Hutchison St. with a mistletoe-themed walkway.

The public is invited to explore the space as they walk through the artistic installation of lights, greenery, ornaments and mistletoe.
