Summer Programs Start At The San Marcos Public Library

This summer the San Marcos Public Library offers multiple free, fun, and educational programs for children each weekday as part of the Summer Reading Program.

This year’s theme is “Build a Better World.” In addition to numerous special events, weekly programs include Teen Anime Club, Storytime, LEGO® Mania, Family Night, and Crazy Craft.

Come see a demonstration of fencing by Gary van der Wege of Texas State University. This exhibition of an exciting and entertaining Olympic sport will be on Friday, June 9 at 2 p.m. and is for ages 6 to 16. No registration required.

When you visit the library, make sure to pick up free tickets for Critterman, wildlife educator David Kleven. Critterman will visit the library on Friday, June 23 with a selection of animals. Show times will be 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

Starting June 12 teens (ages 12-17) can attend the Teen Anime Club from 3 to 5 p.m. every Monday. Watch anime, make friends, and enjoy snacks.

Storytime continues each week on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. Caregivers learn brain-building techniques to share with children ages 0 to 6 at home. Enjoy stories, songs and fingerplays that help build literacy skills.

Also on Tuesdays, kids ages 4 and up and their caregiver can “Build a Better World” with LEGO® Mania at 3 p.m. These open building sessions allow children to be creative and problem solve with limited resources.

Family Night on Tuesday, June 13 at 7 p.m. features a puppet show of the “Trolls’ Surprise.” More performances are on Wednesday, June 14 at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

On Thursday, June 15 the library’s weekly “Crazy Craft” will feature a craft to celebrate Father’s Day. Come make something special for your dad. Crafts take approximately 20 to 30 minutes and all supplies are provided. Everyone is welcome, but children under 5 will need to bring a grownup to help.

Andy Hartsock & the Ninjas play an exciting concert for all ages on Friday, June 16 at 11:00 a.m. The group performs zany original songs and high-energy versions of kids’ favorites.
