TxVEMP’s First Funding Round To Kick-Off For Replacement, Repower Of School, Transit, Shuttle Buses

The Texas Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Program (TxVEMP) is gearing up for the first round of funding for projects to replace or repower school buses, transit buses, and shuttle buses with a webinar and a series of application workshops.

Who is invited to participate?

Any person or entity who operates school buses, transit buses, or shuttle buses with at least 51% of the buses’ annual mileage in one of the Priority Areas, as designated below, is potentially eligible to apply for a grant.

  • Austin Area: Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson Counties
  • Beaumont-Port Arthur Area: Hardin, Jefferson, and Orange Counties
  • Bell County: Bell County
  • Dallas-Fort Worth Area: Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise Counties.
  • El Paso County: El Paso County
  • Houston-Galveston-Brazoria Area: Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, and Waller Counties
  • San Antonio Area: Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, and Wilson Counties

Eligible Vehicles

An eligible vehicle must be powered by a diesel engine and may be replaced or repowered with a new all-electric, diesel, or alternative fuel vehicle or engine.

  • Eligible school buses include a bus with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 14,001 pounds or greater and which is intended to carry students to and from school and related events.
  • Eligible transit and shuttle buses include a bus with a GVWR of 14,001 pounds or greater and which carry passengers on routes within a city or defined regional area.

Funding Availability

More than $58 million in grants will be made available for the replacement or repower of eligible school buses, transit buses, and shuttle buses. Grants will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

The children in the Godley School district who ride the buses home during the hottest time of the day (3:30-4:30 pm) in this heat advisory we have been under for the last 6 weeks are at risk because some of them have asthma or other related breathing problems should have to endure this just to get home every day. Please tell me what I can do to insure this will not happen next year.
