ERC Commission Maintains Original Hearing Date For Parks Board Member Complaint

On Monday, the San Marcos Ethics Review Commission held a special meeting to discuss rescheduling the date of a park’s board member’s ethics complaint hearing.

Jordan Buckley, who was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Board by City Council in March 2019, is under review after a complaint alleging he falsely accused a City Marshal and Park Ranger, Loy Locke, of being a racist during an open meeting.

Buckley submitted a request to the Ethics Review Commission to have the hearing postponed by a month “in the spirit of fairness and equity.”

According to the agenda packet, Buckley claimed he had never been informed of the deadline of the submission of evidence or of the hearing’s overall procedures.

The commission voted Monday afternoon to maintain the hearing’s original date, Feb. 11, and place an item on Thursday’s agenda waiving the 21-day deadline for submission of physical evidence under ERC’s Rules of Procedures for Hearings, to allow relevant evidence submitted no or before Feb. 4, to be considered at the hearing.

The hearing will be held at 5:30 PM Thursday. No public comments will be allowed. However, the meeting will be streamed live here. See the agenda below for other methods of joining.
